My Journey Through InfoSec

Brief introduction to the blog — So, this doesn’t necessarily mark the beginning of my journey, however, it does mark the beginning of my journey as a private citizen. In this blog, I’m hoping the characterize some of the self study I am doing to help bolster the things I have learned while working as Cyber Space professional in the military.

My journey so far…

In 2012 I commissioned in to the United States Air Force as an Aerospace Engineer. I was hoping to work on hands on projects, developing new technology for in atmosphere and out of atmosphere flight. Little did I know that most of what engineers do in the Air Force is Project Management. Luckily, my first assignment landed me at an intelligence squadron doing…. things….

This is where my interest in cyber operations and cyber security started. I found out the Air Force had a program where engineers could cross train to understand what it’s like to be in an operational careerfield (live life as a customer for a change). So I checked out the requirements and enrolled in security classes. I also spent a lot of my free time learning about Linux and how to exploit wireless devices (disclaimer — I only learned how to exploit wireless devices that I owned and purely for educational purposes).

After I felt like I had gotten sufficiently educated in the space, I applied for the program. I was one of two selected for the program — Biloxi, here I come. From there, my interest sky rocketed. Turns out that the Air Force wasn’t really the right fit for me, so I decided to get out. And here were are today…

In this blog, you can look forward to topics in Malware Analysis, Offensive Security, Open Source Intelligence, and Cyber Threat Intelligence… all things I am interested in and looking to develop further.
